Professor Chris Brightling received the Inspiring Leader award due to his dedication and commitment to ensuring the wellbeing and morale of his team while playing an integral part in Leicester's contribution to COVID-19 research including leading the PHOSP-COVID study.

The University of Leicester Citizens Awards are a celebration and recognition of exceptional achievements by exceptional individuals at the University of Leicester. The 2021 edition of the Citizens Awards took place on Thursday 18th November; and finalists were shortlisted according to 15 award categories, covering everything from teaching to research, from student experience to technical support.

The Inspiring Leader award recognises an individual who is a positive role model to their colleagues and staff. They encourage cross working and actively break down silos between different areas. Consideration was given to those who have made time to listen and encourage others whilst demonstrating integrity, honesty and transparency.
